Fun and Busy Friday

Today was a very busy day.  I had a big Philosophy paper due with a presentation.  I read my paper out loud and the class started to discuss it.  I get so confused with philosophy thinking and I just tried to follow along and answer questions as best as I could.  Luckily I went last to present and class eventually ended.  Saved by the bell!  Except without the actual bell.. same thing.  Then in English we had a rough draft of a paper due so I had to turn that in and peer review that.  The two LC's finished up and then I had Calculus class.  We finished all the material for our chapter test which will be next Wednesday so he let us out a little early.

I hopped on the metro right after that and went to meet mom for a lunch.  It was nice to get a break from the cafeteria food.  We went to UNO Chicago grill and I got a huge burger and fries.  Delish! It was nice to see Mom of course and catch up for a while.  I then hopped back on the metro and booked it with just enough time to meet my English prof about my rough draft paper.  I wanted to just make sure I was on the right track and had a few questions to ask.  I thought it wouldn't hurt to go make an extra effort for that class since the first paper I got was a B-.  Hopefully he will see that I am actually trying to improve and succeed in that class.

After crashing in the dorm for a 30 minute nap, I headed over to practice for a pregame preparation.  We did a possession game and then lots of shooting.  I think everyone is ready for tomorrow to get back on track after such a poor performance on Wednesday against Mary Washington.  There is no better time to get ready to play than tomorrow.  We play Messiah at 1 pm and they are ranked #9 in the nation currently.  It's going to be a battle.  I hope we get a solid fan base to come out and watch us.  We then did a quick scouting report in the meeting room after practice to figure out how they're going to play.  I know I'll be ready to play and I think everyone else will be ready too.

After practice I went back out into the city to meet mom for dinner.  I went more on the metro today than I have in the past two weeks it seems like!  But we went to a nice restaurant called The Front Page which was located on Dupont Circle.  We ate outside and it was a nice meal.  I got a blackened chicken fettuccine alfredo to carbo load for up for tomorrow.  That always fills me up and I will probably be going to bed still full.

On the way back from the metro I saw everyone going out into the city from campus.  Everyone is going out and I'm coming back to my dorm on a Friday night.  #studentathleteprobs  It's worth it.  Now I'm tired and will probably be going to bed relatively soon.  Big day tomorrow as well!

Signing off for the night,

A Bad Loss

Yesterday was a packed day.  Freshman Convocation was in the morning which got us out of class from 9 to 11.  It was quite boring to be honest, but I guess everyone has to do it.  After that I had Calculus class from 12 to 1 and then we left on the bus to head to Mary Washington at 1:30.  I'm just glad I didn't have to miss Calc class again.  I was running from my dorm with my boxed lunch and soccer gear to get to the bus on time in khaki pants and polo.  At least I didn't get left behind.

Mary Washington has a pretty nice campus.  It reminded me a lot of CNU with the similar building style and nice organization.  Their fields were Bermuda grass and very nice as well.

Game time was at 5 pm.  To say the least, we came out very, very slow.  We seemed to just be getting out worked to everything.  I got in with about 23 minutes in the half and made a good run down the sideline and had a nice meg on the defender and a cross but the forward hit the post.  I feel like that could've changed the game a lot.  Instead we entered half time down 2-0.  The second half was no better and it seemed like we were just chasing the ball around while they passed around us.  It was pitiful.  The game ended 3-0.  We were supposed to win that game, but it made us realize that we can't just show up and win.

Messiah beat UMW 4-1 recently and now we play Messiah on Saturday.  We're really going to have to rally for that game.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Today I have Calc class followed by an Engineering lab and then practice.  I'll be ready for this week to be over and hopefully school work will ease up a bit.  I'm also excited to see Mom who flies in tomorrow for a weekend visit and the game against Messiah.  I also hope Nelson has a good time on his last middle school retreat!

Now I have to go write some English paper..  What a blast!

For now,

Busy Week

I am writing this post as I casually eat my Cinnamon Toast Crunch in the study room.  Even though it is 8:30 am, no one is up at this time.  I don't have class until 2 pm, but I have a lot of work do anyway.  Unfortunately I did not have time to blog yesterday.  For some reason I am slammed with work this week and am going to be very busy.  Yesterday I was assigned two papers (both for my LC's) that are due Friday.  I have an Engineering lab due Thursday, Freshman Convocation mass on Wednesday morning, Calculus homework due throughout the week and then an away game on Wednesday night at Mary Washington.  Not much free time in that schedule!

Yesterday's practice went well.  We did a lot of one-touch drills to get us moving the ball faster and help with off the ball movement.  I wore my new pair of cleats because I realized my old ones were cracking around the studs.  It was like having a loose tooth except on my cleats.  My new ones are the exact same style but they still look pretty.  I really love those vapors and hope I can break in these new ones as fast as possible.  My old ones are now retired.  They lasted me through all of senior year high school championship run and all of my club season in the spring at CASL.  To say the least, they've lasted me a long time and I'm sad to have to put them on the shelf.

A lot of people are getting sick around campus.  Nico, (a kid down the hall and on the soccer team) came down with strep throat and his roommate Alex (also on the team) had a nasty stomach infection that took him to the hospital.  I'm just trying to keep healthy as best as possible.  Lots of oranges for that Vitamin C.  It's also getting chillier already.  I'm not ready for fall yet but there was a definite temperature change from yesterday and all the days before that.  I really don't want it to get cold yet but it is inevitable.

Now that I'm finished eating my cereal and banana, I need to get to work on my papers.  I'm going to try and get a draft together before Friday and run it by my teacher.  I need to get my writing grades up!  Anyway I hope everyone else is doing well.

Adios,

On the Road

This weekend the team traveled to the Derty Jerz (New Jersey) for a tournament at Rowan University.  Friday we left campus around 12 and I only had to miss one class (Calc).  We watched Gladiator on the bus ride up and it got everyone pumped.  It's definitely an inspiring movie for a workout or pre game watch.  "On my signal, unleash Hell!"  Classic.

We played Vassar College at 6 pm Friday night.  It was nice to be back under the lights (our home field is lacking in lights).  We came out strong.  I had a relatively bad game earlier in the week and average practices the past few days so the third left mid got in the first half when I usually go in.  He played average and nothing special.  I got in with twenty minutes left in the second half and played well.  I was very pleased with my play and assistant coach Weisch shook my hand after and said I did well.  We won the game and advanced to the finals of the tournament.

We went back to the hotel and I was stuck in the only room with four people crammed into it.  I shared a bed with a teammate and it ended up not being too bad; I was exhausted anyway!  We woke up the next day and did a light jog around the hotel followed by a stretch and team breakfast.  Our game was also moved up from 7 to 4:30 due to the incoming storms which also allowed us to get back to campus at a reasonable hour.  We played Rowan University (who won their game 7-1 on Friday night) for the championship.  I played about 20 minutes in the first half and then about ten or so in the second half.  I was again pleased with my performance.  I had my first collegiate assist in the game off a corner kick that put us up 2-1 in the first half.  It was exciting.  They ended up tying the game in the second half and we went into overtime.  In the second ten minutes of overtime we scored and everyone rushed the field onto a huge dog pile.  It was pouring rain and everyone was crushing each other in the pile. It was awesome.  We had a team tailgate and showered and then got on the road home victorious.  Here's a link to the game summary (my picture included :).

Also congrats to CNU and Michael for also winning both of their games this weekend against Shenandoah and then Virginia Wesleyan.  Both Zimms going 2-0 this weekend.  Not bad!  Also can't forget Nelson who is leading ICS to a successful start to their soccer season.  2-0 as well!  I'm a fan!

Sunday is now my catchup day.  I have laundry to do and lots of homework.  It's going to be a busy week with a road game on Wednesday and then Messiah at home on Saturday with lots of school work to do in between.  Gotta be disciplined!  Here's to another good week ahead.

In Between

The team and coach are really pumped after our win yesterday against Shenandoah.  Even though there were times that we just did not look solid, we came out with a convincing 4 to 1 win.  Today's practice was relatively light due to our tournament this weekend in New Jersey.  We play Vassar tomorrow evening and then another team on Saturday depending on how we do against Vassar.  Today's practice personally was decent.  Nothing too special and nothing too awful.  I just hope to get some more chances and get on the field this weekend.  I just keep working my butt off.  That's all I can do.

Classes are going well.  I got an 87 on my first philosophy paper which I am some what disappointed about.  My goal is to get all A's this first semester.  The professor keeps saying that everyone should be getting A's this semesster so I'm hoping to pull that up some.  I spend a lot of my studying time on Calculus which goes really fast and it's pretty complicated.  It's not going to help that I am missing that class tomorrow for our bus ride but I'll just have to catch up sometime.  I'm just trying to stay on top of everything and not fall behind.

Now I have to pack all my stuff for the road trip tomorrow and try and get some solid sleep.  There probably won't be any blog updates for the next few days but I'll try and update it upon returning.

Peace,

Shenandoah

Yesterday we had our first mid-week game.  I had class from nine to one and then I had to head over to the field to get ready for our four pm game.  Shenandoah was coming to play and we had a full scouting meeting to go over their style of play.  We ended up winning 4 to 1 which is great to get our first team win, but I had somewhat of a bad day.  From the beginning I just felt like I couldn't really get going.  It was kind of weird.  I don't know if I was tired or what, but I just really wasn't feeling it.  I got in the first half with like 20 minutes left and played very average.  Definitely not as good as I played on Saturday and I was kind of disappointed.  In the second half the other competitor for left mid entered before me and he played well.  He scored our third goal as well.  I got in with like five minutes left in the game at attacking center mid.  I'm really going to have to battle for that second left mid spot now.  I know that I can't always compare myself to others but if I'm not better than him, then I'm not going to see as much time.  Everyone keeps saying I need to look forward so I'm just going to put that game behind me and look forward to our two more games this weekend in New Jersey.
